HUMBOLDT PARK — Humboldt Park mid-century modern furniture shop An Orange Moon is going big for Black Friday this year.

Everything in the shop at 2418 W. North Ave. is 50 percent off noon-5 p.m. Friday. It’s the shop’s biggest sale ever, according to co-owner Lynne McDaniel.

McDaniel who runs the shop with her husband, Ty, said they’re able to offer the steep discount because they recently parted ways with their longtime selling platform.

“[It’s] allowed us to pass the savings on to our customers,” McDaniel said.

The co-owner acknowledged it’s also a “business move.”

“Small businesses are feeling the brunt of the big box stores,” she said.

But loyal customers needn’t worry. McDaniel said they may be trying to clear out some inventory, but they have no plans to close the shop.

“We have a ten year lease with 2 years left to go! We simply believe that it’s important to change things up,” she said.

The McDaniels opened An Orange Moon in Gage Park in 2009 and moved the shop to Humboldt Park in 2011.

At the sale Friday, customers can expect to find a curated collection of mid-century modern furniture including a newly reupholstered Baker-style mid-century modern sofa ($3,000) and a pair of white American of Martinsville chests ($2,600) — all half off.

McDaniel said if there’s anything left over they’re planning to extend the sale to Saturday.
