20 Christmas And Hanukkah Pop-Up Bars To Get You Ready For The Holidays

Christmas, Hanukkah and Krampus pop-up bars are coming to Chicago. Here's everything you need to know.

DOWNTOWN — Chicago has more than a dozen Christmas- and Hanukkah-themed pop-up bars opening for the holidays.

The pop-ups — which cover everything holiday-related, from the Griswold’s of “Christmas Vacation” to grumpy Krampus — offer decorations, themed cocktails, snacks, Santa visits and more.

Christmas Club

What: Multi-story holiday-themed bar taking over Country Club.
Where: Country Club, 3462 N. Clark St.
Hours: 4 p.m.-2 a.m. Monday-Thursday and 11 a.m.-2 a.m. Friday-Sunday

Food and Drink: The bar will serve themed cocktails, beer, wine, shots and other drinks. Its menu includes snack foods like onion rings, doughnut holes and hot honey-fried chicken waffle cones.

Mele Kalikimaka

What: The rooftop bar of Virgin Hotels Chicago is transforming into a tropical Christmas-themed bar three nights a week with decorations, tiki drinks, music and more.
Where: Cerise Rooftop, 203 N. Wabash Ave., 26th floor
Hours: 4 p.m.-1 a.m. Thursdays, 4 p.m.-2 a.m. Fridays, 4 p.m.-3 a.m. Saturdays

Eight Crazy Nights

What: A Hannukah-themed pop-up, Graystone Tavern will have thousands of blue and white lights, a Mensch on a Bench and a photo booth.

Elf’d Up

What: A holiday pop-up bar with an upside-down Christmas tree, a Buddy the elf (of “Elf” fame) standup and other themed decorations.

Food and Drink: You can nab Buddy’s Breakfast Pasta from the “Nice” menu in tribute to “Elf”: spaghetti topped with maple syrup, chocolate fudge, chocolate syrup, mini marshmallows and strawberry-frosted Pop-Tarts. There’s also a brunch menu and full bar.

Frosty’s

What: A four-story Christmas pop-up, Frosty’s has singing Santa shows every hour, two dance floors and three bars.

Griswold’s

What: Houndstooth is transforming into a “Christmas Vacation”-themed bar for the winter, complete with a burnt Christmas tree, an RV on the patio and a bartender in a bathrobe.

What: Happy’s is a Christmas-themed pop-up bar in the famous Chicago Athletic Association building.

What: This outdoor pop-up spans 2 acres and includes an ice rink, decorations, carolers, a Christmas tree farm and more.

What: Ludlow Liquors is bringing back its holiday pop-up, and this time the theme is holiday villains: the Grinch, the Wet Bandits, Hans Gruber and more.

What: This new Christmas pop-up is from the same team behind another massive holiday bar, Santa Baby. Rudolph’s Bar will feature appearances from the red-nosed reindeer and themed areas like the Grinch’s Piano Bar.
