BUCKTOWN — Thanks to bad weather, scheduled daytime closures of the Webster Street Bridge will continue until Dec. 16, Ald. Brian Hopkins (2nd) said.
Construction will happen 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Monday-Friday until Dec. 16. In the meantime, sidewalks are open to pedestrian and bike traffic.
Eastbound traffic will be diverted north on Ashland Avenue to Fullerton Avenue. Westbound traffic will be diverted north on Racine Avenue to Fullerton Avenue.
The construction, which is focused on repairs to the underside of the bridge, was expected to end Nov. 25.
Built in 1916, the bridge is a Chicago-style “trunnion bascule” structure, Hopkins said. The bridge was rehabilitated in 1967.
Future repairs will be announced in 2020, Hopkins said.
