LOGAN SQUARE — A 34-year-old man faces domestic battery and gun charges after a SWAT standoff in Logan Square Tuesday night, police said.
Just before 5 p.m., police officers responded to a call of a possible domestic disturbance in the 3500 block of West Cortland Street, according to Officer Kellie Bartoli, a police spokeswoman.
When officers arrived, they were told a man, 34-year-old Brian Otero, had barricaded himself inside a home and was possibly armed, police said. A SWAT team was called to the scene.
During the incident, Otero fired a BB gun, police said. Around 8:45 p.m., Otero was arrested by police and and taken to Community First Hospital for a mental health evaluation, police said.
Otero has since been charged with two misdemeanor counts of domestic battery and one misdemeanor count of aggravated assault and use of a deadly weapon. He is due in court Oct. 17.
Neighbor Daniel Marques said police had the area blocked off from 5-10 p.m. and wouldn’t give neighbors much information.
“It was very frustrating, not knowing what was going on,” Marques said.
No further information was available Wednesday morning.
