BACK OF THE YARDS — A 3-year-old boy is in critical condition after being shot Sunday night in Back of the Yards.

At 11:40 p.m., a woman was with her three children sitting in a parked car in the 5200 block of South Peoria Street when three men walked up and opened fire, striking the 3-year-old in his head, police said.

The woman drove to the 5500 block of South Halsted Street where she flagged down an unmarked police car. The 3-year-old was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital where he was listed in critical condition, police said.

His older brother Lavontae Jackson told the Tribune his brother is “a loving kid” who entertains himself with toys and games until bedtime.

The boy’s uncle Wesley Lambert told Sun-Times they expected the boy to recover.

No one is in custody and police are investigating.
