Here's What the Yeti Store That Replaced Double Door In Wicker Park Looks Like (PHOTOS)

WICKER PARK — Yeti — the Texas-based high-end cooler and camping gear company — has finally replaced the Double Door music venue.

Yeti opened Friday at 1572 N. Milwaukee Ave. The Wicker Park shop is the company’s second U.S. flagship store, after a store opening in Charleston, S.C.

Yeti offered a series of activities over the weekend to celebrate its opening, and like its previous tenant, Yeti is accessible through doors on both Milwaukee and Damen avenues.

The Damen Avenue entrance includes the check-out counter, as well as a neon flashing sign that can be seen from inside The Blue Line and La Colombe, businesses across the street.

The central part of the store includes a wide selection of Yeti products, as well as a mini stage, television screen and chairs.

Yeti, 1572 N. Milwaukee Ave., opened Sept. 27 in Wicker Park. It replaced the Double Door music venue.

When customers enter from the Milwaukee side, they will pass a bar with rotating local drafts, as well as two murals painted by local artist Kate Lewis. In each mural, Lewis depicted scenes from Wicker Park and Bucktown.

The store also includes a large, rectangular marquee, which will show a rotating schedule of community events.

Doug Schmidt, the director of retail operations for Yeti, has said Wicker Park is a perfect fit for the company’s “character-rich” story, which began in 2006 when two brothers decided to create their own outdoor gear that would meet their standards.

“Wicker Park is a natural fit for the brand,” he said.

Yeti plans to offer community events inside the store. Those could include camping lessons and acoustic concerts, Schmidt said.

CA Ventures, Yeti’s landlord, shocked and upset several neighbors in early June when it removed the iconic Double Door Liquors sign from the building.

Many neighbors had spent months lobbying to maintain the 16-foot-tall sign red and white porcelain structure.

A spokesperson for CA Ventures has said the sign is in a safe location, and that its future use is to be determined.

Meanwhile, the former owners of the Double Door have said they plan to re-open the music venue in Uptown.
