DOWNTOWN — Nearly 1,000 pumpkins will go on display at Navy Pier starting next week.
The pumpkins will be put up on Oct. 1 as part of Pier Pumpkin Lights, which will last throughout the month. There will be six installations of pumpkins and light displays across the 50-acre pier as well as skeletons and other other Halloween decorations.
The six installations of jack-o’-lanterns will be themed, with one collection called Pumpkin Picasso and another called Jack-O-Lantern Jamboree, among other themes.
Artists, carvers, painters, carpenters and others were needed to create the different installations.
This is the first time the display has gone up at Navy Pier. The pumpkins will be viewable throughout the day but the display is “best experienced after dusk,” according to Navy Pier’s website.
There will also be free trick-or-treating at Navy Pier Oct.26-27 and Oct. 31 for Halloween.
