Cookie Dough Scoops Sweeten Up Cookie Spin’s Menu, Sales In North Center

The cookie dough is offered in the same flavors as the shop's cookies. Chocolate chip and birthday cake Oreo are the top sellers.

NORTH CENTER — Cookie Spin has been a sweet tooth’s treat in North Center since 2016, serving up cookies, shakes, ice cream and more.

But it’s a new menu item on owner Joe Lamondi’s menu that’s been really flying off the shelf: Cookie dough served up in big scoops.

Lamondi has been selling safe-to-eat cookie dough for the past few months at Cookie Spin, 4350 N. Leavitt St., and it’s become one of his most popular menu items.

Most people have had a taste (or three) of raw cookie dough when baking at home — despite knowing the raw eggs and uncooked flour within could get you sick.

Lamondi’s cookie dough avoids those risks.

“There are a few things that make it safe,” he said. “You can’t put eggs in it and we use heat treated flour. That makes it safe to eat, but when you substitute out things you’re losing taste and texture.”

Before he started offering the new cookie dough menu item in July, Lamondi spent a few months experimenting with the recipe to get it just right.

The cookie dough comes in five flavors. The two most popular are chocolate chip and birthday cake Oreo.

“We base it off our cookies, so we have an ultimate peanut butter dough that’s the same flavor as our peanut butter cookies,” he said. “We also do it as combos with ice cream. You get a scoop of ice cream scoop of cookie dough on top.”

Lamondi is looking forward to celebrating the business’s 3-year anniversary in November.

“A lot of what we do here gets around by word of mouth in the neighborhood,” he said. “We have really loyal customers we see every week and they tell their friends. And when we added online ordering, we really blew up.”
