NEAR WEST SIDE — The historic Maxwell Street Market will celebrate family day with free portraits, a puppet show and live music this weekend at Chicago’s longest-running open-air market.
The Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events is teaming up with Humana to celebrate Family Day with a full day of family-friendly activities from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday at the market, 800 S. Desplaines St.

From 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Chicago-based artists Yvette Mayorga and William Estrada will offer a free photo session for families. The photo backdrop will feature an array of items found at the market.
From 10 a.m.-noon, guests will be treated to a Wonder Wagon puppet show by Will Bishop and Grace Needlman.
From 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Yollocalli Arts Reach and the National Museum of Mexican Art will host art workshops at the market for kids, too.
Sunday will also feature a live DJ set from Rayo of the Mexico-based band Centavrvs from noon-2 p.m.
The market is open 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sundays.
