DOWNTOWN — The future is here, and it’s come in the form of robots who will serve food in the South Loop.

The restaurant, dubbed the X Pot, will open in early 2020 in the Roosevelt Collection Shops at 150 W. Roosevelt Road. The “innovative eatery” will use “groundbreaking technology,” including robots and specialty projections, while serving up traditional Asian food, according to a Roosevelt Collection news release.

A series of robots will help servers make dining “seamless” for visitors, according to the Roosevelt Collection.

And the menu will feature Asian cuisine, combining “the comforts of hot pot cuisine” with unique flavors, according to the Roosevelt Collection. While the Chicago menu has yet to be released, in Las Vegas they serve up sushi, hot pot and other Chinese and Japanese small plates.

“We couldn’t adopt the methods of an ancient cuisine and simply change it with new ingredients,” said co-founder David Zhao in the news release. “It’s about taking this tried-and-true method and complementing it with top ingredients, like our A5 Wagyu beef, that will modernize it in a well-rounded way.”

The South Loop location will be the second X Pot in the country, with the first located in Las Vegas. The Vegas spot features interactive light shows that appear on diner’s plates, 360-degree projections, robots and “thematic soundscapes,” according to the X Pot’s website.
