CHICAGO — A three-story mural is going up later this month in the Gold Coast.
The mural will be unveiled Sept. 17 on display on the side of the Esplanade Apartments at 910 N. Lake Shore Drive. It will show an Israeli mountain range photographed by the artist, Assaf Evron, with the rock formation spreading across the building’s windows.
Eight apartment owners offered up their windows as part of the project, according to a news release.
The mural pays tribute to architect Ludwig Mies Van der Rohe, who designed the Esplanade Apartments.
“Mies van der Rohe’s buildings explore the relationship between nature, art and architecture, merging them into one aesthetic,” Evron said, according to the news release. “Using Mies’ logic and applying it onto his building, the caves — a natural residential high-rise — create a juxtaposition between the natural and modern architecture.”
The mural will be up until Oct. 1.
