AVONDALE — Armed carjackers are targeting people in Avondale, Irving Park and the surrounding area, according to police.
The thieves struck three times the morning of Sept. 1, police said in a community alert. The crimes happened within 90 minutes of each other.
In all of the incidents, the victims were approached by a group of two to five people. The group then pulled a gun before stealing the victims’ cars.
In one of the incidents, the group beat the victim and stole his personal belongings after ordering him out of his car. In another incident, the group beat the victim in the head with an “unknown object,” also after ordering him out of his car.
In a third incident, the group took the victim’s personal belongings which were left in the car.
The incidents happened in the:
- 2900 block of North Talman Avenue on Sept. 1 at 6 a.m.
- 5700 block of North Christiana Avenue on Sept. 1 at 6:50 a.m.
- 3900 block of North Keeler Avenue on Sept. 1 at 7:35 a.m.
