GREEKTOWN — A woman driving a crowded minivan in Greektown early Thursday ran a red light, crashed into another car and then ran away, leaving a dead man and three injured women in her minivan at the scene, police said.
It happened at 2:19 a.m. Thursday at Halsted and Madison streets. The woman was driving a 1999 Pontiac Montana south on Halsted when she ran the light at Madison and hit a passing Toyota Camry, police said.
After the crash, the minivan’s driver fled the scene. She was not in custody as of Thursday late morning, police said.
A 28-year-old man in the minivan was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital. Three other passengers, women ranging in ages from 21 to 32, were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where their conditions had stabilized, police said.
A 42-year-old man in the Toyota and his 35-year-old passenger were treated on the scene and released.
Police are continuing to investigate the hit and run.
