HUMBOLDT PARK — Good news for fans of the popular Ukrainian Village bar EZ Inn: The owner is getting closer to opening another watering hole in Humboldt Park.

Isaac Liberman on Wednesday secured a permit to build out the new bar at 1108-110 N. California Ave. It’s the first movement on the project since 2017, when Eater first announced the opening.

Liberman told Eater in 2017 to expect a dark neighborhood bar and a casual food stand serving “finger food done well” as well as a large patio. At the time, Liberman was shooting for a 2018 opening. The project never got off the ground, however.

It appears the project is now taking shape. On Wednesday, Liberman was issued a $250,000 building permit to renovate the existing site and build an outdoor patio, according to Chicago Cityscape, a site that tracks such permits.

Liberman didn’t immediately return a message seeking comment Thursday afternoon.
