LOGAN SQUARE — A woman holding her five-month-old baby was attacked and mugged Friday evening by two men wearing bandanas over their faces, police said.

The incident happened just after 10 p.m. in the 3000 block of West Armitage Avenue, according to police.

A 34-year-old woman told police she was standing next to her car while holding her five-month-old baby when two men came up from behind and demanded she hand over her personal belongings.

The woman told police she tried to run away but the men knocked her down and she fell to her knees. One of the men then struck her in the head multiple times before stealing her belongings, the woman told police.

The men fled the scene, traveling eastbound down the north alley off Armitage Avenue.

The woman suffered “minor injuries” and declined medical treatment, police said. Police said “the report does not mention any injuries to the child,” and declined to provide further information.

Police described the suspects as two black men in their early 20s both standing between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-9 tall with slender builds. At the time of the incident the suspects were both wearing bandanas covering their faces. One wore a red and black bandana and the other wore a white one, police said.

No one was in custody as of Monday morning. Detectives are continuing to investigate.
