WICKER PARK — Chicago police are investigating graffiti recently found on two garages and a car in Wicker Park as possible hate crimes.
The graffiti was reported to police around 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 1 in the 1900 block of West Evergreen Avenue, Chicago police spokesperson Kellie Bartoli said.
The street touches the southeast corner of the triangle-shaped Wicker Park, 1425 N. Damen Ave.
On Aug. 1, officers found:
- Gray spray paint graffiti on a car belonging to a 32-year-old man
- Gray spray paint graffiti on the garage of a 38-year-old man
- Gray spray paint graffiti on the garage of a 35-year-old man
The graffiti included anti-Semitic writing and images that were also derogatory toward racial minorities, Bartoli said.
A witness told officers they saw two men, possibly between the age of 14 and 25, spray painting the car and the two garages.
