Man, 39, Found Dead In Avondale Condo Fire, Police Say

The cause of the man's death is still under investigation.

AVONDALE — A 39-year-old man was found dead after an Avondale condo fire early Monday. The cause of his death is still being investigated.

Firefighters responded to calls of a fire at a three-story building in the 3100 block of North California Avenue at about 12:10 a.m. Monday.

Authorities arrived to find John Janege in the first-floor condo. Janege was pronounced dead on the scene at 12:57 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

According to reports, Janege lived in the building destroyed in the blaze.

A spokeswoman for the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office said the cause and manner of Janege’s death was still under investigation as of Tuesday evening.

Authorities said no one else was injured in the fire.

The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation.
