7 People Wounded In Shooting Near Douglas Park Playground

The seven were among 14 people who were shot in just two hours in the Lawndale neighborhood.

NORTH LAWNDALE — Seven people were injured in a shooting early Sunday as they were gathered in Douglas Park, police said.

At about 1:20 a.m., the victims were all standing in the park in the 2900 block of West Roosevelt Road — near a playground, according to the Sun-Times — when someone fired shots at the crowd from a black Camaro, police said.

A 21-year-old man was shot in the groin and taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition, police saidd.

A 25-year-old woman was shot in her right arm and right leg and was taken to Mt. Sinai. She is stable, police said.

A 20-year-old man was shot on the right side of his body and was taken to Stroger Hospital. He is stable, police said.

A 19-year-old woman was shot in her right leg and was taken to Stroger. She is stable, police said.

A 22-year-old woman was shot in the left leg and was taken to to Mt. Sinai. She is stable, police said.

A 21-year-old man was shot in his left leg and transported himself to Mt. Sinai. He is stable, police said.

A 23-year-old man was shot in his chest and right hand and transported himself to Mt. Sinai. He is stable, police said.

No one is in custody, according to police. Area Central detectives are investigating.

14 shot in two hours

The seven were among 14 people who were shot in three shootings in just two hours in the neighborhood.

One hour later and just a few blocks away, at 2:36 a.m., two women were shot when they were standing in the 1200 block of South Troy Street and someone shot at them.

A 26-year-old woman was shot in the buttocks and hip and was taken to Stroger Hospital. She is stable, police said.

The other girl or woman, whose age was not immediately known, was shot in the left hand and was transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital. She is stable, police said.

No one is in custody and Area Central detectives are investigating.

At 3:43 a.m., five people were shot in the 4200 block of West 18th Street, police said.

One person died in the shooting, according to the Sun-Times. Information on the other victims wasn’t immediately available.
