Chicago Poetry Block Party Celebrates Creativity This Weekend In Pilsen

Award-winning poets from across the country will take the stage.

PILSEN — Poetry will take center stage when the Chicago Poetry Block Party returns this weekend to Pilsen.

The fourth annual event celebrating creativity through poetry and music returns to the National Museum of Mexican Art, 1852 W. 19th St. from 3-8 p.m. Saturday.

The event, hosted by the Poetry Foundation and Crescendo Literary, features local poets and musicians as well as artist from 12 other states.

Among the performers are Lester Rey, Avery R. Young and DÉCIMA. Ayanna Woods will lead the CPBP House Band, and award-winning poets from across the country will take the stage.

Chicago Poetry Block Party will also hold an open mic, writing workshops, visual art activities and games.

“The Chicago Poetry Block Party is about highlighting and celebrating the art that folks are making in the places where they are from,” said Ydalmi Noriega, Poetry Foundation community and foundation relations director.

The celebration was previously held in Bronzeville, Pilsen and Austin.
