DOWNTOWN — The Art Institute is holding a day-long “block party” on Sunday.
The party has a full lineup of events, including a walk around the Lurie Garden, guided tours of different exhibits and a behind-the-scenes look at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. There will be “drop-in art making” sessions where attendees can repurpose toys into art pieces, turn natural materials like twigs and stones into art and design and create posters, among other things.
Musicians, poets, dancers and other artists will perform throughout the day.
Local singer Jamila Woods will also sing after the block party at a special concert. The 7 p.m. concert costs $10 for members and $20 for nonmembers and tickets can be bought online.
The block party runs 10:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday with events inside and around the Art Institute, 111 S. Michigan Ave. A full lineup of its events is available online.
The block party is free for members and $10 for non-members who are Illinois residents and buy tickets online or at the Art Institute by Saturday.
