PILSEN — Kids will be able to meet Chicago Bears quarterback Mitch Trubisky, Chicago Red Stars forward Alyssa Mautz and Chicago Marathon winner Galen Rupp at a Nike and Park District-sponsored play day Saturday in Harrison Park.
The event, dubbed “Go Play Day,” runs from at 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at the park, 1824 S. Wood St. The event will feature Nike-sponsored athletes and kids will have a chance to play tons of sports, including basketball, soccer, flag football, relay races, yoga, dancing, futsal and kickball.
While the play day is free, parents are required to register their children online. Free food will be offered, too.
Nike officials hope the play day will inspire the next generation athletes “by getting kids moving and providing access to sport in Chicago,” said Nike spokeswoman Claire Rankine.
Nike plans to host more play days in Chicago and other major cities like New York and Los Angeles throughout the summer.
