CHICAGO — A man violently attacked and raped a woman in an encampment where people who are homeless stay in the West Loop.
At 7:45 a.m. Saturday, the woman was standing at a Greyhound bus station when a man on a Divvy bike rode up to her and said he’d help her find shelter, according to a Chicago Police community alert.
The man brought the woman to the encampment in the 400 block of South Des Plaines Avenue under an I-290 overpass. There, he sexually assaulted her, police said.
The woman had serious injuries from the attack and needed surgery afterward, police said.
The attacker was a 20- to 29-year-old black man who was slim and had short, dark-colored hair and a mustache and beard, police said. He was wearing a black T-shirt that had white letters on it, black pants, a black baseball hat and gray shoes with orange soles. The man is homeless and spends time at the encampment under the overpass.
Anyone with information about the attack was asked to call police at 312-747-8380.
