CHICAGO — A huge “trunk party” will help West Side teenagers get everyday items they’ll need before heading to college.

Breakthrough, a charity group that helps families on the West Side, will collect supplies for 50 Garfield Park teenagers who will go to college in the fall. They’re asking supporters to bring everything from bed linens to notebooks.

At the party, students who otherwise might not be able to afford basic items will go through the donated supplies to see what they need. The party is 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Aug. 3 at Breakthrough, 3219 W. Carroll Ave.

Donations can be purchased on Amazon through a wishlist or at Target and Bed Bath and Beyond and delivered to Breakthrough FamilyPlex, c/o Breakthrough’s Trunk, 3219 W. Carroll Ave., Chicago, IL 60624.

East Garfield Park teens who are graduating from high school can apply to participate online.
