CHICAGO — A man attacked and tried to rape a woman walking on the Lakefront Trail late Friday, police said.

At 11:17 p.m. Friday, the woman was walking on the path in the 700 block of South Lake Shore Drive — near Balbo — when a man came up to her from behind, according to a Chicago Police community alert.

The woman struggled with the man and tried to use pepper spray on him, police said. A passing bicyclist startled the man and he ran off.

The woman got away and flagged down Chicago Police officers. She refused medical attention.

The attacker was a black man who was 28-30 years old, 5-foot-10 to 6 feet tall with a thin, athletic build, police said. He had no facial hair and wore a black jacket and black pants.

Anyone with information about the attack was asked to call police at 312-747-8380.
