HYDE PARK — The Hyde Park Spring Truck Food Festival kicks off this weekend — with proceeds set to benefit Kenwood Academy.
The festival starts at 4 p.m. Saturday in the south parking lot of Kenwood Academy, 5015 South Blackstone. Proceeds from the event will go to Kenwood Alumni Network’s scholarship fund.
The festival started in 2016 as a way to support Kenwood students and the larger Hyde Park community. The $12,000 raised from last year’s efforts allowed more students to join a college tour on the West Coast.
A number of food trucks and retailers have signed on to participate, including Whadda Jerk, Lexington Betty Smokehouse, Big Mama’s Kitchen & Catering, Big Wang’s Chinese Street Food, Butter Knife, Mediterranean Express, The Chi Cheff, Bill’s Grill and Harold’s Chicken Shack.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their appetites and a chair or two to enjoy their food in comfort. DJs Tyrell, FlashIsBack,
Dorian DuPree and Wil Jakz, will take turns spinning everything from house to hip hop. Beverages will be for sale as well.
Another food truck festival will take place at the end of summer, before the new school year.
