CHICAGO — Alisha Elenz is a rising star in Chicago’s culinary scene — and she got an award-show makeover to show it.
Elenz, the young executive chef at Lakeview’s mfk., has been nominated for the James Beard Award’s Rising Star Chef honor. She was one of six nominees flown to Los Angeles to be pampered and get a makeover from designer Tan France ahead of the award ceremony on Monday.

France met with Elenz and the other nominees, learning about how they became chefs and helping them find the perfect outfits for the award ceremony.
“I mean, as chefs, yeah, we don’t have time to go out and shop and accessorize,” Elenz said in a video of her meeting with France. “I think a lot of us — it’s like, ‘OK, pick a dress out. Pick a tux out. Look good.'”
France chose a peachy gown for Elenz before his team helped her with makeup and styling her hair.
In her new look —”I’m just really excited,” she said after the makeover.
