EAST VILLAGE — Alderman-elect Daniel La Spata (1st) will meet with voters at 6 p.m. Monday at Wells Community Academy High School, 936 N. Ashland Ave.
The purpose for the town hall is for La Spata, a first-term alderman, to hear from his constituents about issues important to them, according to the event’s official Facebook page.
In February, La Spata, a community organizer from Logan Square, ousted incumbent Ald. Proco “Joe” Moreno, who was running for a third term.
La Spata will be sworn in on May 20, replacing Moreno.
In a post-election sit-down with Block Club Chicago, La Spata described himself as deeply passionate about the issues facing the 1st Ward, housing and public safety chief among them.
The 38-year-old also pledged to take a fundamentally different approach to governing than his predecessor.
“How do we create cultural and community spaces that really bring our new and old neighbors together, to break bread and share stories? I think that’s going to be essential,” he said.
The 1st Ward includes all or parts of Logan Square, Wicker Park, Ukrainian Village, Humboldt Park and West Town.
Monday’s event is free and open to the public. Spanish translation will be available. Email info@daniellaspata.com with questions.
