DOWNTOWN — A new online map made by the City of Chicago can show you what roads to avoid as construction season gets underway.

The ChiStreetwork map was unveiled on Tuesday and can be viewed online. Anyone can enter a ward, neighborhood, intersection or address to see nearby road closures, events and construction work. The information can show an area’s current status, the past month or future projects up to a year ahead.

The city also linked construction permits to the map, allowing residents to see what contractor is working on the job and even pull up PDFs of the permit.

That information was previously only available to aldermanic offices, utility companies and staff from the Chicago department of Transportation, according to the Mayor’s Office.

“Our goal is to make ChiStreetWork the go-to site for city residents to find out what kind of construction work and special events are happening on their streets and in their neighborhoods,” said CDOT Commissioner Rebekah Scheinfeld in a news release.
