HERMOSA — A massive fire at Newly Weds Food Factory in Hermosa destroyed the building Tuesday night.
The fire started around 5 p.m. in the Newly Weds Foods Factory building at 4125 W. Wrightwood Ave., according to Larry Langford, spokesman for the Chicago Fire Department. It was put out about 10 p.m.
The building’s roof collapsed and it was a total loss, officials said. Employees of the factory were able to leave as soon as the fire was detected and all were accounted for.
No one was hurt in the fire except for a fireman, who had a minor injury to his ankle, a spokesman said.
But at one point, the blaze was so big a third of all the city’s on-duty companies responded to it.

Metra Milwaukee North line trains, which run next to the factory, were temporarily stopped in both directions at Healy around 7 p.m.
