CHICAGO — If you tend to lose your Ventra card every few weeks, we’ve got some good news: you can soon use Apple Pay to get on the CTA with the Ventra app.

Ventra users with Apple Pay will be able to tap their phone to board a bus or CTA train starting later this year, according to the mayor’s office.

While an exact date was not announced, the city said the technology would be available later this year.

“Chicago is proud to work with Apple to elevate the experience of CTA rider,” Mayor Rahm Emanuel and CTA President Dorval Carter said in a statement. “New Ventra Cards on iPhone will build on the strength of the existing Ventra system to make commuting in Chicago even easier and more convenient, and help modernize America’s second largest mass transit system for the 21st century.”
