LOGAN SQUARE — Tickets are on sale now for the first-ever “Latin Beats on the Square” event, a salsa, funk and hip-hop concert benefitting Goethe Elementary School.

The concert/fundraiser is set for 7-11 p.m. March 29 at Logan Square Auditorium, 2539 N. Kedzie Blvd.

Salsa artist Papo Santiago and his band Infraverde will perform from 7-9 p.m., followed by a DJ set from DJ Jesse de la Peña of Vocalo Radio.

There will be an appetizer buffet with selections from local eateries plus raffle and silent auction prizes, including a staycation package at Chicago Athletic Association Hotel and Cindy’s Rooftop and $500 in restaurant gift cards from Boka Restaurant Group.

Friends of Goethe, an all-volunteer group made up parents, teachers and neighbors, is behind the event. Goethe currently enrolls about 750 elementary school students, according to the CPS website.

Tickets for the event can be bought online in advance ($30) or at the door ($35). The ticket price includes two drinks and access to the buffet.

For an extra $20, event-goers can attend the “Teacher Appreciation Happy Hour” from 6-7 p.m., which includes a specialty cocktail, beer from Revolution and Maplewood breweries and a salsa dance lesson with Tony Ovalle from Dance Center Chicago.

Friends of Goethe is seeking sponsorships from local businesses, anywhere in the $100 – $5,000 range.

To sponsor the event or get involved in other ways, contact the group directly at goethevolunteering@gmail.com.
