CHICAGO — A group of thieves snatched purses and phones from at least three victims Saturday on the Near North Side.
The thieves came up to victims from behind, grabbed the victims’ cellphones and purses out of their hands and then ran off, according to a Chicago Police community alert. In at least one incident, the thieves got into a silver Ford Escape and drove off.
One victim confronted the group and the thief took out a gun and threatened to shoot the victim, police said.
The robberies and thefts occurred:
- Early morning Saturday in the first block of East Chestnut Street
- Afternoon Saturday in the 900 block of North State Street
- Afternoon Saturday in the first block of East Oak Street
The robbers were described as one to four men and a woman, all of them 20-22 years old, police said.
