LOGAN SQUARE — More details will soon be revealed about the new Logan Square/Avondale bar project from the team behind popular bars like The Owl, Estelle’s and Easy Bar.
Four Entertainment Group, or 4EG, is looking to open a new bar at 2922-24 N. Central Park Ave., a site currently occupied by old-school Polish bar Mr. ZJ’s.
Representatives from the group will share their plans at an upcoming community meeting, set for 6 p.m. March 6 at Aspira High School, 2989 N. Milwaukee Ave.
The meeting is being facilitated by Ald. Ariel Reboyras, whose 30th Ward includes the site.
The group wants a zoning change to renovate and expand the existing bar to allow for an outdoor patio, according to a zoning application filed with the city. It’s also looking to build a one-story addition to the southern end of the existing three-story building. No changes are proposed for the apartments above the bar.
In a letter to residents, attorney Thomas Raines said “no zoning changes will be approved, unless the community is present” at the meeting.
Mr. ZJ’s is situated just steps from Podlasie Club, another Polish bar at 2918 N. Central Park Ave. In between the two bars is a vacant lot.
Founded in 2007, Four Entertainment Group owns a small group of popular neighborhood bars including Remedy Bar, aliveOne, Estelle’s, Easy Bar and 4 a.m. spot The Owl, the latter of which opened in 2011.
In 2011, managing partner David Halpern told Time Out Chicago his goal is to open “neighborhood bars that feel like they’ve been there forever.”
Messages to Four Entertainment Group were not returned Thursday.
Zdzislaw and Stanislawa Sitarz are listed as the current property owners. The couple couldn’t be reached for comment.
