WICKER PARK — Patrons of the Wicker Park Farmers Market will soon be able to practice their vinyasa before shopping for vegetables.
The winter indoor market will begin offering free yoga classes this Saturday at 9:15 a.m. on the upper floor of Chop Shop, 2033 N. Damen Ave. The market begins promptly at 10 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m.
All classes are “BYOM” — bring your own mat.
Both studios are based in Wicker Park.
The studios don’t get paid to teach the classes, but community service is a big part of what yoga’s all about, Nature Yoga Sanctuary studio manager Emily Rezetko said.
Classes are open to all experience levels, she added.
“It’s good for somebody who wants to try something new,” she said. And “for someone who’s been doing yoga, it could be a different experience.”
Farmers markets are a great place to find “like-minded” people who appreciate yoga and want to support local businesses, Rezetko said.
Colleen Quaid, the owner of Mirepoix, said people should bring reusable shopping bags in addition to their own yoga mats.
“It’s great to move your body and commit 45 minutes to your mental and physical well being, then head on over to the market and grab some fresh produce for your weekly meals,” she said.
Nature Yoga led free classes during last summer’s outdoor market, and will do so again this summer, Rezetko said.
According to the Wicker Park Farmers Market website, the 2019 outdoor summer market will begin Sunday, June 2, and will run weekly from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. until Oct. 27.
