CHICAGO — An event will help organizers collect feminine hygiene products for people in need this weekend in Ravenswood.
Organizers from the Period Collective will collect feminine hygiene products — including pads, tampons, liners and wipes — and monetary donations during the Saturday event, according to a news release. The donated products will go to people who are homeless.
The event will double as a blood drive thanks to a partnership with Vitalant, formerly known as Lifesource. February is when hospitals have the lowest blood supply, according to the Period Collective.
The event is 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at the Ravenswood United Church of Christ, 2050 W. Pensacola Ave. You can make an appointment to donate blood online.
The Period Collective is a nonprofit that helps supply people who are homeless or low-income with feminine hygiene products.
