BUCKTOWN — This month, pedestrians and cyclists may notice small, quarter-shaped navy blue magnets with red hearts scattered along The Bloomingdale Trail.
Pocket those magnets, because they’re part of a Valentine’s Day-themed treasure hunt.
During the month of February, the magnets can be redeemed for a discount at one of several participating shops and restaurants near the trail. The magnets are fittingly inscribed with the message, “You found love on the Bloomingdale Trail.”

On its website, the Friends of the Bloomingdale Trail Park Advisory Council referred to the campaign with the phrase, “love is local.” Busy Beaver Buttons supplied the magnets.
As of Tuesday, 11 businesses were participating in the treasure hunt. (If more join in, the advisory council will update its website).
