HUMBOLDT PARK — Candidates in the 26th Ward will share their visions for the ward at a forum this week.

The forum, hosted by United Blocks of Humboldt Park, is set for 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday at Association House of Chicago, 1116 N. Kedzie Ave.

Incumbent Ald. Roberto Maldonado (26th) and his challengers Theresa Siaw and David Herrera are all slated to attend.

Maldonado has held the seat since 2009; then-Mayor Richard M. Daley appointed him to replace Billy Ocasio. Before becoming alderman, Maldonado served as a Cook County Board member. When he was younger, he worked as a psychologist for Chicago Public Schools and ran a mortgage-banking firm.

David Herrera is a local developer who has worked in municipal finance and real estate development for the last 13 years. Herrera’s family is originally from the East Humboldt Park/Ukrainian Village area. You can read more about him here.

Siaw is the director of OMNI Healthcare, a medical clinic with a dozen locations, including one on Division Street in Humboldt Park. She is also a philanthropist who makes a habit of donating to local schools. More on Siaw here.

The municipal election is Feb. 26. If no candidate in an aldermanic race receives a majority of votes, they’ll head to a runoff election April 2.
