NEAR WEST SIDE — An off-duty police officer was found fatally shot Saturday night in Tri-Taylor, according to the Chicago Police Department.
At 9:30 p.m. Saturday, a female officer was found dead in an alley in the 900 block of South Bell Avenue, Officer Jessica Rocco said. A preliminary investigation revealed she died of a possible self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to police.
The police officer was identified as Lori Rice, 47, of that block, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
Rice had worked 21 years for Chicago Police Department, said Anthony Guglielmi, a Chicago Police spokesman.
Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances that led to the shooting, Guglielmi said.
Information initially provided on scene that there was a suspect in custody was inaccurate, a police spokesman told the Chicago Tribune.
