CHICAGO — Dangerously cold temperatures led to the cancelation of two aldermanic forums this week.

A Tuesday night forum with candidates in the 40th Ward at Amundsen High School, 5110 N. Damen Ave., has been postponed. And a forum for candidates in the 33rd Ward planned for Wednesday night at Bateman Elementary School, 4220 N. Richmond Ave., has been rescheduled.

Temperatures will dip Tuesday night and stay dangerously low through Thursday, with the possibility of wind chills making it feel like 50 degrees below zero at points, according to the National Weather Service.

Mia Furlong, one of the 40th Ward forum’s organizers, told Block Club a new date is being discussed and will depend on both the school and candidates’ availability.

Ald. Pat O’Connor (40th) is defending his City Council seat against Dianne Daleiden, Maggie O’Keefe, Ugo Okere and Andre Vasquez.

The 40th Ward forum is being co-organized by League if Women Voters of Chicago, Bowman Community Organization, Mikva Challenge, Heart of Lincoln Square Neighbors Association and the Andersonville South Neighborhood Association.

The 33rd Ward forum has been rescheduled for Feb. 7. Eric Zorn, a Chicago Tribune columnist, will moderate.

Ald. Deb Mell (33rd) is defending her City Council seat against Katie Sieracki and Rossana Rodriguez.

Jess Bouboulis said the forum was postponed due to the extreme cold forecasted for Wednesday night.

The 33rd Ward forum is being co-sponsored by the Avondale Neighborhood Association, Albany Park Neighbors, Horner Park Neighbors, People of East Albany Park, Ravenswood Manor Improvement Association, The Residents of Irving Park, West River Park Neighbors, 33rd Ward Youth Council and the North River Commission.
