CHICAGO — A man was seriously hurt when he jumped off an expressway bridge after crashing his car on the Dan Ryan early Monday, police said.
At 12:46 a.m., Chicago Police officers saw someone speeding in a Nissan on the outbound Dan Ryan, police said. The driver crashed into guardrails near the 2500 block of South Normal Avenue.
Officers went to the crash and two men got out of the car, police said. One ran toward the inbound ramp of I-55 and the other man, 20, jumped off of the bridge there, landing on 2500 block of South Normal.
The bridge appears to be at least 25 feet off the ground.
The incident happened where the Dan Ryan curves and drivers are traveling practically in an east-west pattern on the normally north-sound Ryan.
The man who jumped off the bridge was taken to Stroger hospital in critical condition, police said. The other man ran away.
A gun was found inside the car, police said. An investigation was ongoing.
