CHICAGO — Three cars have been stolen from Irving Park and Avondale this month — including two apparently taken illegally by a tow truck driver, police said.
The victims parked their cars in lots and, upon returning to the lots, found their cars had been stolen, according to a Chicago Police community alert.
Two of the thefts happened at a lot near Addison Street and Kimball Avenue. Video from those incidents shows someone in a tow truck towing the stolen cars out of the lot, though the manager for the lot said he or she didn’t authorize a car being towed.
The thefts occurred:
- 7 p.m. Jan. 4 in the 3400 block of North Monticello Avenue
- 8 a.m. Jan. 5 in the 3400 block of West Addison Street
- 7:22 a.m. Jan. 5 in the 3500 block of West Addison Street
No description of the thief was immediately available, though police said she or he drove a dark-colored tow truck during the two thefts on Addison Street.
Anyone with information about the thefts was asked to call police at 312-744-8263.
