LOGAN SQUARE — The group behind The Owl, Easy Bar and Estelle’s is looking to open a new watering hole at the Logan Square/Avondale border.
The new bar is planned for 2922-24 N. Central Park Ave., a site currently occupied by old-school Polish bar Mr. ZJ’s.
Four Entertainment Group, or 4EG, is seeking a zoning change to renovate the existing bar and build an addition to accommodate for an outdoor patio, according to a zoning application filed Wednesday. The group is not looking to make any changes to the apartments above the bar.
David Halpern, managing partner at 4EG, didn’t return messages seeking comment. His attorney, Thomas Raines, was reached, but didn’t immediately answer questions.
The bar hasn’t changed hands, according to the zoning application. Zdzislaw and Stanislawa Sitarz are listed as the property owners — not 4EG. Attempts to reach Zdzislaw Sitarz were unsuccessful. Twice a bartender said Sitarz was on “winter vacation” and declined to answer further questions.
Mr. ZJ’s is situated just steps away from Podlasie Club, another Polish bar at 2918 N. Central Park Ave. In between the two bars is a vacant lot.
Founded in 2007, 4EG owns a small group of popular neighborhood bars including Remedy Bar, aliveOne, Estelle’s, Easy Bar and 4 a.m. spot The Owl, the latter of which opened in 2011.
In 2011, Halpern told Time Out Chicago his goal is to open “neighborhood bars that feel like they’ve been there forever.”
