CHICAGO — Alinea, considered to be one of the best restaurants in the world, is offering a meal to Clemson’s football team after they were served up fast food at the White House.
Nick Kokonas, Alinea Group partner, tweeted late Tuesday that he’d invite the team to “an actual celebration dinner” at the Lincoln Park restaurant, 1723 N. Halsted St. The offer came after Clemson, which won the 2019 College Football National Championship, was treated to a celebratory dinner of fast food during a White House dinner.
President Donald Trump said on Twitter that he’d served the team fast food because of the government shutdown. Photos showed a spread of hamburgers, salads and other items from fast food chains like Wendy’s and McDonald’s.
Eater Chicago, which first reported on the offer, said Kokonas would provide the team with a “tour” of restaurants, including stops at the Office in The Aviary, Next and Roister in Fulton Market with a finale at Alinea.
Alinea is rated three stars by Michelin and is routinely considered one of the world’s best restaurants.
