DOWNTOWN — Chicago’s blood supply is critically low, but Red Line riders can change that.

Vitalant, the network of blood donation centers formerly known as LifeSource, is transforming select Red Line train cars into “Blood Line” cars.

The cars and stations along the Red Line will be outfitted with signs that teach riders about blood donation and explain that Chicago needs more donors as its blood supply is “critically low,” according to the company’s Instagram.

Red Line stations will also be host to a series of blood drives in the coming weeks, according to Vitalant.

The first blood drive is 2-7 p.m. Jan. 18 at the Cermak/Chinatown Red Line stop, 2155 S. Wentworth Ave.

Vitalant will post updates about the Blood Line and upcoming blood drives on a special Blood Line Instagram.
