LOGAN SQUARE — Armed carjackers struck at least twice in Logan Square Wednesday afternoon, according to police.
The first incident happened around 3:15 p.m. in the 2600 block of North Spaulding Avenue, police said.
The victim — a 42-year-old man — was sitting in his car when a man held him up at gunpoint and tried to steal it.
The man approached the victim’s car while pointing a handgun at the driver ordered him out of the car, according to police.
When the victim told the man his car could be tracked, the man ran off, police said.
About 15 minutes later, another carjacking was reported in the 2700 block of North Drake Avenue.
In this incident, the victim — a 57-year-old woman — was sitting in her car in a garage when a man wearing a surgical mask approached the woman’s car, took out a handgun and then demanded the woman’s car, police said.
The man then drove off in the woman’s car, according to police.
According to ABC 7, which was first to report on the incident, the man tried to sexually assault the woman as he was trying to steal her car. But a police spokeswoman said there was no mention of attempted sexual assault in the police report.
It’s unclear if the incidents were linked. No further information was available.
