  • Credibility:

LOGAN SQUARE — Neighbors have the opportunity to learn more about candidates running in three of the wards that encompass Logan Square at an upcoming debate.

The debate is set for Jan. 8 at Norwegian Lutheran Memorial Church at 2614 N. Kedzie Ave. from 6:30-9 p.m.

Candidates in the 1st, 32nd and 35th wards are scheduled to attend.

As of Monday, the list of confirmed candidates includes:

32nd Ward Ald. Scott Waguespack (unchallenged for re-election) at 6:30 p.m.

1st Ward Ald. “Proco” Joe Moreno and challenger Daniel La Spata at 7 p.m.

35th Ward Ald. Carlos Ramirez-Rosa and challenger Amanda Yu Dieterich at 8 p.m.

Logan Square Preservation, a nonprofit dedicated to the preservation and beautification of the neighborhood, is hosting the debate. The group said it won’t be making any endorsements.

“Instead, we encourage you to learn more about the candidates for local office before early voting begins on January 17th, 2019,” the group wrote on the event page.

Though they’re not slated to attend the debate, Justin Tucker and Trevor Grant may also appear on the 1st Ward ballot pending the outcome of petition challenges.

The only Logan Square ward that won’t be represented at the debate is the 33rd Ward, which covers a small portion of West Logan Square.

The debate is free.

Neighbors are encouraged to submit topics for the debate by emailing the neighborhood group at logansquareevents@gmail.com.
