CHICAGO — Chicago Police have rescheduled a gun turn-in meant to be held this weekend in Austin.

The event will now be held in early 2019, police announced Wednesday.

People will be able to bring in their guns and give them to police in exchange for money with no questions asked, according to a Chicago Police news release.

Police will offer $100 for a gun and $10 for BB, airsoft and replica guns.

The event will be held at Friendship Baptist Church, 5200 W. Jackson Blvd.

Chicago’s gun buy back events, which are organized jointly by community groups and Chicago Police, have led to controversy in the past. One Illinois gun rights group has even turned in worthless guns to the police and used the profits to send children to a shooting camp.
