Catalytic Converter Thefts Reported In Portage Park And Jefferson Park

Police recommend parking in well-lit areas and buying a car alarm.

PORTAGE PARK  — A series of catalytic converter thefts have been reported in Portage Park and Jefferson Park recently.

The thefts typically happened during the night or early morning hours, basically when vehicles are parked for long periods of time. After the converter is removed, the car’s exhaust sound much louder than normal.

The thefts were reported in the:
• 5300 block of West Lockwood Avenue, between Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. and Nov. 21 at 9 a.m.
• 4900 block of West Cuyler Avenue, between Nov. 21 at 6 p.m. and Nov. 22 at 10 a.m.
• 5300 block of West Berenice Avenue on Nov. 21 at 4 a.m.
• 5500 block of West Berenice Avenue, between Nov. 30 at 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 1 at 11:45 a.m.
• 6000 block of West Warwick Avenue on Dec. 1 at 2:20 p.m.
• 5600 block of West Lawrence Avenue on Dec. 2 at 8 a.m.
• 5800 block of West Montrose Avenue on Dec. 3 at 1 p.m.

Police recommend parking in well-lit areas and buying a car alarm.
