CHICAGO — A Thursday night shooting in Rogers Park killed a 42-year-old man, officials said.

At 11:13 p.m., the man was standing on the sidewalk in the 1600 block of West Howard Street when someone fired shots at him, police said.

The man was hit in his back and he was taken to St. Francis Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The man was identified as John Williams, of the 1500 block of West Jonquil Terrace, in Cook County Medical Examiner’s office records. Williams was pronounced dead at 12:04 a.m. Friday.

No one was in custody. An investigation was ongoing.
