CHICAGO — A 21-year-old woman was shot dead in front of two kids on Halloween night in Belmont Cragin.
At 9:22 p.m. Wednesday, the woman was a passenger in a car when a man got into the back of the car in the 2200 block of North Long Avenue, police said. The man told the driver, another woman, to drive.
The second woman drove for several blocks, but then the man shot the 21-year-old woman twice in the back of her head and ran out of the car with money he’d stolen from the victims, police said. Two children were in the car during the shooting.
Maria Coronel, of the 4900 block of West North Avenue, was pronounced dead at 9:49 p.m. at the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
No detailed description of the gunman was immediately available and no one was in custody.
An investigation was ongoing.
